Photonics Center e-learning
 – When should I take it? Why not now!

Spring has come! In this season brimming with light, wouldn’t you like to know more about light itself?

Although light is all around us, we don’t yet know all that much about it.
Different from electrons, which had the principal role in the twentieth century, photons have the special characteristic of free transmission in the air, in water and even in living organisms. If this special characteristic can be sufficiently utilized, the world as we know it will change. Read further here to see how it will change.

Such visionary technology could not be ignored by the world. With the invention of lasers in 1960 and following nanotechnology which can freely manipulate the nanostructure of material, the research field of photonics (the science of light and its application) started up in earnest. Now this field of research covers all aspects of the production of, manipulationby, and detection of light, targeting the extreme ultraviolet region and far infrared region.

The leading research hubs in this growing research field are the Stanford Photonics Research Center (SPRC), the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) in Germany and also here, where the Osaka University Photonics Center was born.

“The world will change with photonics. No, we will change it.”

Motivated by their belief in this statement, twenty laboratories operating together with businesses are tackling photonics research to promote new industries in photonics.

Furthermore, in order to nurture human resources in photonics to create the future, the Photonics Center has prepared Photonics Center e-learning for those researchers and engineers seeking to broaden their avenues of work aside from their field of expertise into other areas of photonics.

The Photonics Course covers photonics from basics through to the cutting edge.
The Photonics Entrepreneurial Course aims to develop innovators who have knowledge about photonics and technical know-how, and can utilize results from their research so far to generate industries and contribute to society. This course is now open.

Participation in the course is a privilege available only to the students and teaching staff of the Osaka University, and the Photonics Center partner companies so we urge you to take full advantage of it.

“I was so lucky to enter a university that has Photonics Center.” We feel sure that the day will come in the future when you will hear yourself saying this.

So, for that future…
Photonics Center e-learning – When should I take it?
Why not now!
