Asia Student Photonics Conference 2013
I am Shota Ushiba and I serve as the president of the Osaka University OSA/SPIE Student Chapter. By transcending borders to cooperate with one another and make combined use of each other’s expert knowledge, Asian researchers shall create new science and lead the way for development in the photonics field. In pursuit of that dream, this July the Osaka University OSA/SPIE Student Chapter and Photonics Center will hold the “Asia Student Photonics Conference 2013” which will be one of the largest student conferences in Asia. More than 80 students and young researchers will gather together from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Japan for this conference to build vast collaborative networks. We at the student chapter see it as our role to create an environment in which the participants can easily get to know each other during the short three-day duration of the conference. We are currently making steady progress with these preparations. During the course of these preparations, we have contacted the guest speakers, decided on the content to be presented by them, sought sponsorship, made a timetable for the program, made announcements about the conference, and made contact with participants. These coordination efforts have given us management experience that is rarely had by students that are not involved in club leadership positions. Sometimes I have struggled from taking on too many duties. At other times, I had small conflicts with other students over details. However, in difficult times, the students of our chapter and the network always showed support. For that, I am very thankful. As our common goal, we sincerely hope that all the participants will enjoy the conference and it will become a cornerstone for the future. To this end, the OSA/SPIE Student Chapter intends to show the best hospitality we can present in order to welcome the conference participants. We are combining our efforts to work together in preparing for the conference and are now quite confident that attention has been paid to even the finest detail. It is now less than forty days until the conference opens and our student chapter is becoming even more active as we endeavor to make the conference a success. At the OSA/SPIE Student Chapter, we are all looking forward to establishing new friendships and partnerships as we welcome the participants from various Asian countries to the conference in Osaka..

Asia Student Photonics Conference 2013
