On March 14th (Fri), the workshop mentioned in the title was held at Photonics Center, Osaka University,

co-hosting with British Consulate-General Osaka, Southampton University and Photonics Center.

In the morning, we had 3 lectures from UK researchers and introduction of PARC, OSA/SPIE Student Chapter and Partner Companies.

The poster presentation from 30 students and researchers and Lob tour for the

UK delegates were held in the afternoon.

The 3 lectures were consisted of an academic one and 2 tutoring ones with the theme of managing photons from the basic to the cutting edge of Plasmonics mentioned here.

There were more than 80 participants attended the workshop, including 7 researchers from UK, some from the Partner companies, young researchers and students.

We expect all participants had the opportunities to stimulate their ideas each other

beyond the boundaries,

also we hope the research exchange between UK and Japan will develop and the

network will be strengthened in the future through this workshop.

Before the workshop, ‘UK-Japan Photonics and Metamaterials Research Workshop’ took place on March 10th (Mon) and 11th(Tue) at British Embassy Tokyo.

9 Japanese researchers including Prof. Satoshi Kawata/Executive Director, Prof.Eiichi Tamiya/Vice Director gave their lectures and 7 researchers from UK.

In total, 7 people attended the workshop from Osaka University.

The above 2 workshops had been planned through the research exchange between Director Satoshi Kawata and Professor Nikolay Zheludev <the Deputy Director of the Optoelectronics

Research CentreSouthampton Univ. and the director of The Centre for Disruptive Photonic

Technologies (CDPT), Nanyang Technological University(NTU)>.

The Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton and Photonics Center  of Osaka University

agreed MoU in 2012 and the Optoelectronics Research Centre are joining the project,

‘Advanced Nano Photonics Research and Education Center in Asia’ ,Asian Core Project(JSPS)

which Photonics Center has been engaging.
