On January 6, 2017, the opening ceremony of the Advanced Photonics and Biosensing Open Innovation Laboratory, or “PhotoBIO-OIL” was successfully held at the Icho Kaikan hall of Osaka University.
PhotoBIO-OIL is the first laboratory jointly established by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Osaka University in accordance with their agreement of cooperation concluded in May 2011.
At the ceremony, we were honored to invite a number of guest speakers including Mr. Hiroyuki Suematsu, Director-General, Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau, METI, Mr. Yoichi Ito, Director-General, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, MEXT, and Mr. Masayuki Matsushita, vice chairman of Kansai Economic Federation. The ceremony was well attended by researchers of related industries and inside/outside of Osaka University, as well as university students.
The Laboratory aims at biosensing R&D to realize innovative drug development and infectious disease diagnostic methods by combining the University’s nanophotonics technology and AIST’s bio device technology, and is fully committed to the early practical application of the developed technologies to commerce and industry.
