IDEC Corporation and Nitto Denko Corporation which are participating in the Photonics Center, have succeeded in jointly developing an innovative method for manufacturing white LED modules. This process involves sealing the module with liquid resin containing fluorescent material, and replacing the conventional process of pouring in resin around the LED element by enveloping it in a resin sheet in a gel form. This reduces manufacturing time significantly, and improves yield and performance. This was reported on pages 22 and 23 of the March 2013 edition of Nikkei Manufacturing. The Photonics Center is fostering integrated research, including joint research between companies, resulting in innovations in production technology. This outcome is one of the fruits of the harmonious integration of people, technology and space that the Center provides.
